My apologies if this seems a little distasteful, but Marty Townsend, one of the rhet/comp professors at Mizzou, actually sent me this link. She said she's 99% sure this is the same man we read last week. Anyone have better investigative skills than me and care to find out?
It's totally the same guy. Asao is a body builder in his spare time. His twin brother is a body building coach. We met a few summers ago at a writing workshop with Peter Elbow. Nice guy. :)
This could be an interesting take on 'Rhetoric of the Body,' Donna. What's the difference between sculpting the body and sculpting prose? Probably not that much....
Thanks for the confirmation, Donna. I'm shocked and somewhat speechless. Do you know if he'll be at CCCC in the spring? If so, I'm going to go watch him talk!
In fact, Asao was very interested in my work on mindful writing specifically because it is based in mindfulness of the body. He said that being mindful of the body felt very familiar to him because of the attention he pays to isolating each muscle when he's working out. He wanted to share my article with the graduate teaching assistants that he taught. So how 'bout that? And I don't know if he has had a proposal accepted to Cs, but my guess would be that he'll be there. I could ask him, I suppose. :)
Is it weird that Inoue suddenly makes more sense to me? Also that he looks like Antonio Banderas a little bit? Okay. I've looked at this picture long enough.
