Work "time"

Make time for regular writing: I like Boice’s point about working with constancy and moderation. I mainly love this point because of the ‘prioritizing’ that we have to do as grad students. As much as I love my students and love teaching, I am here to be a student first. This has forced me to look at the times when I am most productive, and devote those times to my own scholarship so that my best “work hours” are not spent grading papers. I do “my work” every morning (as one of 3 freak “morning-people” in existence). I have a really hard time writing or doing research in the afternoon, so this is the time that I devote to creating assignment sheets, pulling books from the library, and responding to email. I also LOVE the ‘chart your progress’—because it validates an exercise that I love: writing things on my ‘to do’ list that I have already done or that aren’t ‘big’.
